No Milk Waffle Recipe – Light & Fluffy

Follow this no-milk waffle recipe for spongy, smooth, and fluffy waffles for your breakfast!

Having waffles for breakfast is a total treat. Served with a side of chocolate ganache, strawberry, and freshly brewed coffee is a great way to relax over the weekends.

What I love about waffles is that there are different ways to make them, and you can substitute milk and still have delicious, soft, and crunchy on the outside waffles in a matter of minutes. You can skip to the recipe card if you’re in a rush.

How to substitute milk in waffles?

It may come as a surprise but you can skip the milk in homemade waffles, and the end result will be the same. Water is a great substitute in a no-milk waffle recipe.

This is great if you are out of milk, or for those who have special dietary requirements. With a few simple substitutions in ingredients, you can make waffles without milk or vegan waffles as they are dairy free.

By following this recipe, you will be able to make fluffy waffles, as there is butter in the recipe, and it’s not going to reduce the fat content even if you are skipping milk.

For those who want dairy-free waffles, you can use coconut oil if you don’t want to use butter.

no milk waffle recipe from scratch

I always recommend using a waffle maker for perfect waffles, that are crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside.

Key Ingredients

  • 6 tsp melted butter
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1⅛ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1½ cup water
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Toppings

You can serve these crispy and light waffles without milk with the topping of your choice. Here are some of my favorite ones:

You can also toss in some seasonal fruits like strawberries, blueberries, mango, and any fruit you have. If you like things simple, top your waffles with melted butter and it will melt in your mouth.

Chef Notes

  • Make sure to preheat your waffle maker because otherwise, it will take you twice as long to cook.
  • Stir the mixture thoroughly to create small air bubbles, and you will have fluffy waffles.
  • If you are making a large batch of waffles, warm your oven, and store your cooked waffles so you can serve them hot at the same time.
